Wedding Trends 2021

With 2020 weddings being affected by the current pandemic we want to look ahead to weddings of the future and be optimistic for a return of weddings in 2021. Covid-19 has changed the way we do weddings in Ireland and has heavily influenced wedding trends going forward. We are optimistic about Weddings in 2021 and have highlighted some of our favourite trends that we think our couples will love!

Intimate Weddings

This may be the most obvious wedding trend to emerge for 2021 weddings, but we can see Intimate Weddings and Micro Weddings becoming increasingly popular for Irish couples. Before Covid the trend for smaller weddings in Ireland was beginning to grow but now lots of couples are considering it as a welcome alternative to the traditional big Irish wedding. An intimate wedding of up to 100 guests can allow you to make your day a little more personal and give you the chance to mingle with all your guests. If you choose to go with a micro wedding you can really make it a relaxed occasion for you and your nearest and dearest.

 Gourmet Weddings

With wedding guest numbers generally, a little smaller lots of couples are choosing to use their allocated budget and go all out with menu choices. It’s much easier to cater to a gourmet menu when the numbers are lower and you can spoil your guests with something quite special and unique. Most venues will offer a diverse menu so that you can tailor your choices to suit your taste and budget. One of the most important aspects of your wedding is always the food – its what your guests remember!

Opulent Décor

Weddings may still come with some restrictions in 2021 but one thing that doesn’t have to be paired back is the décor! One trend that will carry through to 2022 and beyond is wedding décor – couples want to go all out and create an ambience that reflects their style and personality. You can do this in many ways from the use of lighting, quirky neon signs to amazing floral arrangements – there are no limits!

Creative Seating

One positive thing to come out of Covid weddings has to be alternative seating at a wedding. With table numbers restricted, couples and venues have to work together to be creative with seating arrangements. One trend we loved was the mix of table sizes and shapes to break up the room and add focal points. Another fab idea is to have an alternative Top Table – there are lots of variations to the traditional top table and modern couples are learning that its ok to break the rules!

Return of Wedding Favours

wedding favours had gone out of favour in recent years but recently we are seeing them come back into play. This may be a direct result of wedding guest numbers becoming smaller and so it’s a more viable option or because couples are wanting to spoil their guests more – either way, who doesn’t love to get a little gift at a wedding?! Instead of a gift we have a lot of couples who want to use this part of the budget to make a donation to a charity close to their hearts and let guests know by pacing a message on their table – this is a win-win approach.

Spiritual Ceremonies

we have seen a huge rise in Spiritual and alternative ceremonies with couples choosing to go down the non-traditional wedding route. A spiritual or Humanist ceremony gives you more freedom over the ceremony contents and you can even write your vows. It’s a great way to get others involved and children can have a pivotal role making it more of a family ceremony. Another cool thing about an alternative ceremony is that you can have it in lots of really special locations – outdoors is becoming increasingly popular or even a ceremony at home can be organised – the choice is endless

Doing things your way – there’s never been a better time to do things your way when it comes to your wedding day. Irish weddings have a common tradition of mostly following the same thread as that’s what has always been done. It may have taken a worldwide pandemic but finally, we are seeing couples step away from the norm and do something a little different to reflect their style and personality. The wedding rule book has well and truly been ripped up and couples are embracing the opportunity to go their way and we love it!
